It's extremely important to keep
your Bonsai tree moist and never let
it dry out. We recommend watering
your tree everyday. Don't over soak
it, as this will have an adverse
effect and is likely to rot the
fragile root system that's starting
to develop.
Instead just water it enough to keep
the bonsai soil moist and you will
start to see your Bonsai tree grow.
Don't be tempted to move your Bonsai
tree indoors permanently at this
stage. It will probably be okay for
a few days, so you can show it off
to family and friends, but remember
that any trees natural habitat is
outside.
As Autumn approaches your Bonsai
tree with start to shed it's leaves
like most other trees to prepare for
the winter month ahead. Again don't
be tempted to move your Bonsai tree
inside. Instead move your tree to a
sheltered area in your garden and
away from harsh winds.
Even though your Bonsai tree will
remain dormant during the winter
period it's still vital not to let
your Bonsai tree dry out, so regular
watering is essential. Your
Bonsai tree should be fine with any
cold spells too, just make sure that
the compost you are using or Bonsai
soil doesn't totally freeze and your
tree will be fine through to Spring.
Adequate drainage is also essential
in order to care for your Bonsai
tree. Makes sure your ceramic
bonsai pot or container has
sufficient holes in the base to
allow the water to drain away.
Too much sitting water will rot the
fragile root system of your bonsai
tree, where as not enough water will
starve it of essential nutrients
needed to survive.
As Spring approaches your Bonsai
tree should start to produce leaves
and slowly recover from winter. This
is when you can start to think how
you would like to sculpt your Bonsai
tree...
